The Personal Narrative of JAMES O. PATTIE, Of Kentucky, During an Expedition from St. Louis, through the vast Regions between that Place and the Pacific Ocean, and thence back through the City of Mexico to Vera Cruz, during Journeyings of Six Years; in which He and His Father, who accompanied Him, suffered unheard of Hardships and Dangers, had various Conflicts with the Indians, and were made Captives, in which Captivity his Father died; together with a Description of the Country, and the various Nations through which they passed.  Edited by Timothy Flint.

Recent cloth, new end papers, 8 x 5, some old repair (tape) on some pages and plates, a few page corners repaired professionally, 300 pages, 5 plates. In one plate the indian character is colored amateurishly.

Second edition "of the first printed narrative of an overland journey to California." This edition employs the remainder sheets from the first edition of 1831 with a new title. Both editions are considered "of extreme rarity" (Zamorano 80, 60).

Recently deacquisitioned from an Historical Society, with call letters on spine, ink number stamp on last page, a few other pencil marks. This institution never had any of its books outfitted with library cards or borrower slips, thankfully.
